[In the Beginning] Raising Children - Harder Than Ruling a Kingdom

It's been almost a week since the attempted kidnapping of the King's son and ward and Uther has barely had time to check on them. There was the trail of the captured kidnapper and then having learned the group came from Cenred there were attempts to negoiate a manhunt with that kingdom's ruler. (The less said about that the better - the King of Cenred is, in Uther's opinion, a complete waste of space).

Gaius's prognosis was generally good, Arthur's leg wound wouldn't be permanently disabling and there was no sign of infection so far. As for Morgana, the concussion was cause for concern but she was also recovering well.

The two children had been sharing Arthur's room because Morgana thoroughly refused to be separated from the Prince. In fact, she screamed bloody murder if any attempt was made! Arthur was less vocal, but he obviously rather have Morgana with him than not. It was quite a surprise since the two of them had seemed to do nothing but fight otherwise. It had been rathe touching, not that Uther was going to let anyone know he thought that. It wouldn't do for a King to be seen as soft.

Today though, Morgana would be returning to her own room, since obviously the two couldn't stay in the same room forever. Unfortunately and not unusually Uther wasn't able to be there, but according to Gaius she'd made quite a scene.

Which was why he'd finally cleared some time in his busy day to go and see her and Arthur, difficult though it is for him to actually talk to people, especially those he cares for.

He opens her door, slowly, hesistantly. "Morgana?"

Now Uther's being challenged by no one, but both children. Morgana, unwittingly sometimes but purposefully at others, will inspire that from Arthur.

She looks critically at his leg and then back to Uther. The momentary politic is now gone.
Uther is, of course, the King and more than accustomed to giving orders. But...he finds himself being less harsh than usual right now. It really had terrified him the possibility of losing either of them.

So he's prepared to be magnimous.

"I believe I was too hasty in my decision this morning."
Uther may or may not realize how close he was to losing wither or. If any of the other abductors had held Morgana, it's likely her throat would've been slit before being dropped.

One might have to forgive Morgana for looking rather confused. It's cognitive dissonance at its worst, as she's fairly certain that means he's admitted he made a mistake.

Therefore, clarification must be made. Just in case she is hearing things wrong, and she will be made to go back to her chambers of the night, she's very clear in saying. "I can stay here then? Until Arthur's better?" It's as much about her health as anything, as traipsing through the palace with her random bouts of dizziness might not be the best idea.
Uther is well aware that not every bandit would have attempt to bargain with a hostage's life.

Another reason he's backing down. He manages a small embarrassed smile. "Yes, you may, I'll inform the guards of the change in plans."

Arthur looks at him. "Right now? Aren't you going to stay with us?"
Morgana's willing to be a bit forgiving, and tolerant of what she otherwise sees as her de facto jailer, now that she's allowed to stay a bit longer with Arthur. When his leg is better -- when she is certain his leg is better, she won't fight being sent back to her chambers.

Still, there's a bit of judgment about being so quick to leave. He's only proving her earlier point about Arthur's uncertainty.

"You're leaving? Then why did you come to see me if you were just going to leave?"

Uther shuffles his feet a bit.

"Well, there's...I need to..." he gestures vaguely towards the door.

It's clear he has no idea.

Arthur looks at Morgana suitably confused.
Morgana spares a glance for Arthur, but she's going to watch Uther exit. If she looks slightly disappointed, it's because she's hiding a much bigger disappointment, for Arthur's sake.

There is a thought that she could distract Arthur somehow, and goes with a very traditional boy-friendly topic.

"Have you looked at your leg tonight? Do you think it'll leave a good battle scar?"
Arthur beams. "I have!" He pushes back his blankets and pulls up the cuff of his trousers to show her.

"It looks pretty nasty doesn't it?"
Morgana stops looking at Uther entirely, to look at the wound.

"You'll have a better scar than the other pages when you get to be one. I won't have a scar at all," she tilts her head over a little to show the thin line that was the slight cut to the neck. It'll clearly vanish shortly.
